It is the title of our first CD and was chosen as a metaphor for a time of decision making- "WHAT music style does this album represent"? To us it represents many musical styles and influences and we have gone down many roads over the years, not only in music but in our chosen careers as well. We felt this record reflected our heritage and we feel it is "Maritime music". What is Maritime music? Well for anyone who has ever travelled to eastern Canada, you will understand that Eastern Canada is a world to itself. It should even have its own music category. The Boyds have travelled extensively through Canada, United States and Europe and feel Maritime music captures the influences of Irish, folk, Bluegrass, gospel, country, european, pop, rock, pretty much all genres. The album is original music written by Eddi Kenny-Boyd and Chuck Boyd, with the exception of one song, "Fiddle In the Sky", which is a 1970's Seals and Crofts song. Chuck and Eddi's daughter Alex, is featured on a song called "Beulah", a light hearted song about the capture of a whale that was freed due to some soul searching. The Newfie Clappers (family and friends) are featured on a song called "Come To Newfoundland", a song written by Chuck telling the story of how far he travelled to meet a newfie girl and how difficult it was to leave the rock. The Clappers only make it more fun by the kitchen room setting, where all the great fun takes place. The song "Sweet Memories Of You" we dedicate to our Dads who are no longer with us but inspired us along the way. The Boyds have been making music for years and hope to travel to the Maritimes many more times from their Nashville home. The recordings for this record took place in Newfoundland and Nashville and the blends of the sounds created by all the musicians involved from Newfoundland to Nashville gave The Boyds the sound they wished for when they wrote these songs. We hope you enjoy this CD as much as we enjoyed making it. For information on bookings and calendar events, contact theboyds3@mac.com |
